Local Beat: Gypsies on the Move.

Popular local music duo, Shane and Lynda Allen with Rivertown Gypsies, will soon be on the move and heading East. They are moving out of the valley and over to Norfolk, Virginia. For the past four years, Shane and Lynda have played every First Friday at the Irish Pub in downtown Lewisburg. They describe their genre as blues, rock, and soul. You’ll find them playing a mix of original material and covers. Shane tells us, “We do original material and covers and we try to choose our cover material to reflect our influences. Most importantly, we like to play good music that we enjoy because we find that if you enjoy what you’re doing then usually the audience will as well.” Over the years, they have played several gigs all over West Virginia, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Notwithstanding their travel schedule, Shane and Lynda are pleased they kept their one and only, a regular gig during First Fridays at the Pub.

Shane and Lynda met in elementary school. They didn’t get to know each other until high school and this is when they started dating. A true love story, they have inseparable ever since. Shane tells us that while they have always played music together, it was never in public until recently. He says, “Lynda has always loved to sing, but suffered from severe stage fright for many years, so we would play together at home. I finally convinced her to give it a shot in 2012. It took a little time for her to get comfortable performing in front of people, but now she loves it!”

“The Rivertown Gypsies have been playing music in this area for years, and have become a local favorite. They will be leaving the area soon, and this will be their final show at the Irish Pub, as well as their farewell party. Please come out and let them know how much you’ve appreciated their contribution to the vibrant music scene in this area, and wish them well in the next phase of their journey. Slainte, Shane and Linda!” – Irish Pub staff

After they move, Shane and Lynda plan to continue their involvement with music as much as possible. They also say they want to play in Lewisburg when they are in town visiting friends and family. While they are still Lewisburg locals, don’t miss their LAST SHOW & Going Away Party on Saturday, August 4th at 8pm, at the Irish Pub, which is located at 1030 E. Washington St.
