Fri. March 17: Parade into St. Patrick’s Day!

This March, kick off your festivities with a St. Patrick’s Day Parade at The Irish Pub in downtown Lewisburg on Friday, March 17th! For more than 10 years, the Irish Pub’s St. Patrick’s Day has brought a festive celebration of Irish Heritage to Greenbrier County.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in the parade but you can also watch from the sidelines. The Irish Pub’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade isn’t just one of the smallest parades this side of the Mississippi, it’s one of the smallest in the United States and may be considered the smallest parade in the world. With a total travel distance of 118 feet, it starts at the Wild Bean coffee shop and ends at the pub. Parade line-up is at the Wild Bean at 6pm. This year’s Grand Marshalls are Angus and Bobbie MacIvor. Finbar, the Irish wolfhound, is also making his annual appearance in the parade! He has been in the parade since he was a puppy. If you are interested in joining the parade, head over to the Wild Bean at 6pm. Everyone is welcome to participate!

While the parade is held at 6pm, festivities start at 3pm and go until 1am. The pub invites families and friends to rejoice with good food, music, and activities. They will have a food special featuring their Famous Corned Beef Hash and there will be lots of giveaways including complimentary swag such as Irish themed pins, hats, and beads!  And in case you’re not already in the Irish Spirit, they are raffling away a very rare bottle of Midleton Irish Whiskey.

Traditional Celtic musicians, Brendan Sheridan and Patrick O’ Flaherty, will play live music throughout the day. You can take the Irish tunes home with you as well! Patrick has 9 cd’s and 1 dvd for sale at the pub. Brendan will be performing at the pub from the 16th until the 20th.

Other St. Patrick’s Day events in downtown Lewisburg include parties at the Asylum and at the Sweet Shoppe. The Sweet Shoppe will have DJ Sid, $1.50 Green Beer, $5 Jameson shots, and $2.50 Guinness Blonde, because nothing is more intriguing than a blonde with a dark past.

Other March events at the pub include the annual Lewisburg/Fairlea Food Locker Fundraiser on Sunday the 5th from 3-6pm. There will be live music by several local musicians, a 50/50 raffle, and a silent auction! You are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations. Foods can include canned vegetables, boxed macaroni and cheese, etc.

Every Wednesday, check out Whiskey Wednesday! Performances are listed in the agenda, pages 10-15.

On Thursday, March 16th, grab a pint and test your trivia skills with Pub Quiz! Hosted by a quizmaster from Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company, you’ll get to obsess over pointless facts and figures in the genteel surroundings of the pub as you slug it out to see who can pick the most holes in the others’ brainy knowledge. This event starts at 8pm and for the next few months (on the third Thursday of each month), the brewing company is scheduled to host the quiz.

On Thursday the 30th enjoy the sounds of Bicycle! This band is made up of bike riders who got together to create fun, feel-good, original music you can dance to. They play reggae/alternative rock tunes resembling Sublime. This show is free and goes from 7:30pm-10pm.

On Thursday April 6th, the pub will have a band called New River Twain. This is a free show from 8pm-10:30pm. Band members are area locals, Don Steck and Mike Clark. Their genre is Folk/Americana.

Saturday, April 8th marks the 11th Annual Lewisburg Chocolate Festival (pictured above). During this year’s event, the pub will not be a tasting location, however, they invite you to stop in and enjoy their wide selection of refreshments! They have 10 beers on tap and over 100 bottled beers. Festival tickets are on sale now! Visit lewisburgchocolatefestival.com.

If you’re looking to find the perfect St. Patrick’s party for you and your friends, check out the Irish Pub, Asylum, and Sweet Shoppe in downtown Lewisburg! The pub is located at 1030 Washington Street E.

Donating = Loving

LBSPY remains D.I.Y. in nature and it takes hundreds of hours a month to research and write, and thousands of dollars to sustain. If you find any joy and value in it, please consider making a one time or recurring monthly donation of your choosing, between a cup of coffee at The Wild Bean and a good dinner at Food & Friends
