The Flower Tent at SJ Neathawk’s Lumber

Like me, many of you probably noticed a girl at the entrance of S.J. Neathawk’s Lumber holding a large sign saying “Easter Flowers” over Easter weekend. Curious, I decided to stop in, check out the goods, and talk to the owner, Kenneth “Jonathan” (as he likes to go by) Gibson. Gibson owns the Greenbrier Building Apartments in Marlinton, WV, and is the former owner of the Snak Shak restaurant (which was also in Marlinton). Upon the closing of his restaurant, he decided to go into the plant and flower business in Lewisburg, and he says he “loves every minute of it.”

Over Easter weekend, The Flower Tent, located in Neathawk’s parking lot, carried an assortment of planting lilies, mums, hyacinth, hydrangea, tulips, kalanchoe (a personal favorite), daffodils, grape hyacinth, and more. I was impressed by the variety of flowers, the rarer colors of some of the hyacinth (white, peach, blue-purple), and, last but not least, the prices. There was not a bad flower in the bunch, and they were a steal at the prices at which they were being sold (anywhere from around $2.50 for single hyacinths to around $25.00 for assorted potted flowers).

The Flower Tent is re-opening for the summer season on May 1st! Come check out our hanging baskets starting at $9.88. They make great Mother’s Day gifts!

After a very successful Easter run, The Flower Tent temporarily closed down but will be reopening on May 1st for their summer season, which will go until mid-July, approximately. During that time, they will carry hanging baskets starting at $9.88 that will consist of greenery (like ferns), citronella (to help you keep the bugs away), and various flowers (like lilies, calla lilies, pansies, hydrangeas, New Guinea impatiens, a ground or water plant called “black magic” elephant ear, and more), as well as patio pots and plants, hibiscus trees, and citronella trees. They’ll even have cube packs of flowers that can be planted directly into the ground, as well as vegetables, herbs, and bedding plants (ground cover) like marigolds.

On May 11th, bring in your kids, and Neathawk’s will give them a pot and some soil to take over to The Flower Tent, where Jonathan will give them a flower for them to plant and give to Mom, free of charge.

For Mother’s Day, The Flower tent will be selling baskets and arrangements. They will also be partnering with Neathawk’s the Saturday before Mother’s Day, May 11th: bring in your kids, and Neathawk’s will give them a pot and some soil to take over to The Flower Tent, where Jonathan will give them a flower for them to plant and give to Mom, free of charge.

Between S.J. Neathawk’s Lumber and The Flower Tent, it looks like your home and garden needs will be completely covered this summer. See you in the garden!
