First Draft: Washington Street Pub. New Name. Same Great Experience.

The Irish Pub has re-opened its doors in downtown Lewisburg and is now called the Washington Street Pub. Colin Rose and Paula Thomas from The Asylum are the new owners. The Pub space, with its oak floors, handcrafted woodwork, and large front windows is still the same, however, Colin and Paula have added a new ambiance with a jukebox, new dart boards, and a pool table.

In 1990, Patrick and Andrea opening their first Irish pub

The duo tell us they decided to reopen the pub because it has been a Lewisburg icon since 2006. The former pub was started by Patrick O’Flaherty and Andrea Izzo who held their grand opening just days before Thanksgiving on November 22. In 1990, Patrick and Andrea opened their first Irish pub in New Orleans’ French Quarter, called O’Flaherty’s Irish Pub. Our former Lewisburg City Paper writer, Angie Blair, loved the Irish Pub so much that in 2013, she wrote an article titled “Top 5 Reasons Why I Love the Irish Pub.” Here’s a brief rundown of Angie’s list: 1.) They taught me how to drink. My first order defaulted to a Harp but from there I ordered Guinness and I can honestly say I’ve never looked back… 2.) I’m a part of the place. One of the coolest things about the Pub is how they embrace their customers… 3.) Pub Quiz changed my life. Pub quiz is more than just a night of drunken triva; it helped me overcome my fear of public speaking… 4.) Norm! (Cheers reference) 5.) Great friendships forged by fire (and whiskey): The Irish Pub is where I discovered that sometimes it’s ok to talk to strangers… (see Angie’s full article at christinae6.sg-host.com)

Similar with Patrick and Andrea’s vision…

Similar with Patrick and Andrea’s vision of creating a place where customers can become regulars and share an authentic experience, Colin and Paula have hired former Irish Pub employees, Aidan Sullivan (pictured above) and Matt Bergman. Paula tells us, “Aidan and Matt were former employees of the pub so it’s nice having fresh familiar faces!”

Also in sync with the former pub, The Washington Street Pub will soon always have something going on. Paula says, “We are still getting organized so game nights and music are coming soon!” There is also a week to week menu which includes plentiful Sliders, Soups, and tasty Pepperoni Rolls.

The pub is open every day except Monday.

The pub is open every day except Monday. Hours of operation are Tuesday-Saturday, 4p-12am and Fridays opening at 1p. On Sundays they are open from 1p-6p. Keeping up with the former pub’s Sunday’s Bloody Mary “beat the clock tradition”, they still start at $1 at 1pm then increase just $1 every hour until closing. Daily, the pub offers a quality selection of beers (including Guinness, Harp and, Smithwicks), Irish whiskeys and scotches, and lots of local West Virginia brews including Greenbrier Valley Brewing Co. and hooch including Hawk Knob (both located just minutes from downtown. Check them out!).

The Washington Street Pub. New name, same great experience. Enjoy a pint and make a new friend. They are located at 1030 Washington St. E. Lewisburg, WV 24901 beside Greenbrier Valley Theatre.
