The 2016 Roadkill Cookoff & Autumn Harvest Festival was another smashing success! To celebrate the event, we documented with photos and some video. There were thousands of attendees and the weather was perfect.
Big congratulations to “East Meets West Virginia” for winning 1st Place and $1,200 prize money!! Check out our interview with them below. 2nd Place ($600) & People’s Choice ($150) was awarded to “T’Ain’t EZ Bein Green” and they took home $600. 3rd Place went to “You Hit ‘Em We Spit ‘Em” which came with $300. Showmanship was awarded $150 which went to “The Coal Hollow Brothers”. Each cooking team received a $100 participation award, with free registration.

Their roadkill menu included: One Ton Won Tons (pictured above), Smashed Potadoe Patties (Japanese Krokke), Chinese Chef Boar R-D Noodles (Chinese Das Das Noodles), and T-boned Elk over Grits (pictured above) | Thumper and Bumper of Grits (BBQ, Chinese 5 spice Elk or Rabbit over Grits).

Next up is the 2nd place winner, T’Ain’t EZ Bein Green featuring Kermit the Frog! Foods were prepared by Arlene Carr of Meadowbridge, WV and Alicia Kuhn of Coldwell, West Virginia. They prepared “Rest in Bits & Pieces,” (pictured above) which is a meatball that includes venison, duck, pheasant, quail and pork. The meatball was buried under a “green pasture” sauce of cilantro, chile, golden raisins, ginger and mint.
The Hillsboro Hillbillies prepared an Autumn Stew with venison wild board and bear. This tasting came with a side of cornbread muffins with ramps and apple cider.
The Market on Courthouse Square in Hinton, WV prepared Buttermilk, Battered Frog Legs!!! (pictured above).

Ration Book prepared a Ration Pie (pictured above) and Blackberry Cobbler.
The Coal Hollow Brothers, winners of the Showmanship award, offered a spectacular display featuring coal-fired trains as they prepared charcoal-fired dried venison. Their special dish was called, Ma, them Hogs is Runnin Wild.

April Maes Cafe prepared a delicious Deer, Bear, and Turkey Chili (above).
The Cub Cookers have been participating in the Roadkill Cookoff since 2012. This year they made Teddy Tacos (pictured above). This tasting included bear meat with tomatoes, red cabbage, cheddar cheese, pepper, and relish.
A visitor from England came to the Roadkill Cookoff to participate in all the fun! This booth served up I Wanna Iguana Nachos prepared by 3rd place winners, “You Hit’Em, We Spit’Em,” run by Cher Megasko and Greg Todd of Chartottesville, Virginia.
