Sat. July 19: Explore the World of Herbs

Herbs 2013 copy

The Green Bank Herb Fair returns to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Greenbank, WV on Saturday, July 19. Compared to last year, the number of speakers, demonstrations, and activities are doubled.  This summer’s sessions will emphasize herbs which thrive in the area, including ginseng, and emergency medicines we can get from plants growing in our own neighborhood.

There will be classes with over 16 speakers who are national and international leaders in the herbal community, including several Registered Herbalists who have their own herbal practices.  Many of these herbal practitioners also trained in western medicine before branching out to embrace other healing disciplines.

In addition to using herbs in their practice, herbalists treat the “whole person” rather than only treating an illness.  This is in keeping with 2,000-year-old advice from Greek healer Hippocrates: “it is more important to know a person who has a disease than to know the disease a person has.”  Hippocrates is known as the “father of modern medicine.”

This year a 15-minute pause at the end of each class has been added to give attendees a chance to talk directly with the teachers.  A variety of herbs and plants will be available for sale at the Herb Fair Farmers Market.

All-in-all this year’s Herb Fair will have plenty of eye-opening, mind-clearing, body-healing information for everyone.  Because the Herb Fair offers more than twice the activities as last year, the general admission fee has gone up…

However, if folks register by July 4th they can take advantage of last year’s price. For more information, a detailed schedule and tickets, find the Green Bank Herb Fair on Facebook.  To send an email or register see: wvherbfun@gmail.com
