A WOMAN, A STORY, & A LIFE IN-BETWEEN: CHRISTMAS IN NOVEMBER BY TIFFANY BLAIR

There was Christmas music playing in my local Walmart a few nights ago. I’m no Scrooge – don’t get me wrong – but, wow. It seems to me we’ve been crowding the Holidays closer and closer together as the years have gone on, and now we jump directly from werewolves and vampires to dragging weepy-eyed kids to see Santa, attending Ugly Holiday Sweater parties, and jockeying for our places in the layaway line. In my opinion, every HalloChristmaHanuKwanzaaGiving is a whirlwind, but the music is where Thanksgiving really gets a raw deal. For instance, Jingle Bells was originally written as a Thanksgiving tune, but we all know it as a Christmascarol. Over the River and Through the Woods can be either Thanksgiving or Christmas, depending on which set of lyrics you’re referring to, but I’ve always associated it with Christmas, myself. Personally, I think we need some indisputable Thanksgiving songs playing while we shop during the month of November. Something to sort of ease us into the season. Maybe we can all get together “We Are the World”; style and lay down a hot turkey track over some saucy beats. Cranberry saucy. I…wait. What was I saying?
