West Virginia Hog Rally by Michelle Evans

Pocahontas County’s winding, scenic roads make it a natural choice for motorcyclists, and an even more natural choice for the West Virginia State Harley Owners Group (“H.O.G.”) Rally, which is being held at Snowshoe Mountain Resort. There’s a lot to celebrate this year too: 110 years of Harley Davidson, 150 years of West Virginia statehood, the 30th anniversary of H.O.G., and the 20th anniversary of West Virginia H.O.G.

The 2013 WV State HOG Rally takes place Wednesday, July 10th through Saturday, July 13th and is filled with events you won’t want to miss. Wednesday’s events kick off at 9 a.m. till noon with Registration in the Williams Room. Two Poker Runs will go on during the rally at your leisure between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., and a Walking Poker Run goes anywhere from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., also at your leisure, in the Vendor area in Marlinton and the top of Snowshoe Mountain. Smooth Ambler Spirits will be at the Inn at Snowshoe parking lot giving tastings from noon to 4 p.m. Registration commences again from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. back in the Williams Room, and the Ice Cream Parade (which we hear is a “must attend”) goes from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Opening ceremonies start at 7 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. at the Village Stage. The entertainment is weather permitting and is Friday July 12th with Déjà vu and Saturday July 13th with Area 51 (likely), both in the Dome.

Thursday’s events begin with two Poker Runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the road, three Walking Poker Runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the same locations as Wednesday’s Walking Poker Runs, a Balloon Slingshot on the Ski Slope from 9 a.m. to noon, and a Golf Hole-in-One from 9 a.m. to noon at the Driving Range. Registration begins in at 9 a.m. in the Williams Room and goes till 4 p.m., and there will be vendors in the Village Area and throughout the Dome parking lot from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Saturday. Smooth Ambler Spirits will continue their tasting tours at the Inn at Snowshoe parking lot from noon to 4 p.m. Entertainment begins at 8 p.m. at the Village and goes till 10 p.m. The 50/50 drawing is roughly between 8 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. (basically whenever the band takes their first break), and the LED Bike Show will start anywhere between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., again, depending on when the band takes their first break.

Friday starts off with Registration in the Williams Room from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., three Walking Poker Runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (again, at your leisure and at the same locations), a Balloon Slingshot at the Ski Slope from 9 a.m. to noon, and Vendors located in the Village Area from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The parade to Marlinton starts staging at the bottom of the hill at The Inn at Snowshoe at noon, leaves promptly at 12:30 p.m. and ends at 1 p.m. The Ride in Bike Show goes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Marlinton with a coupon for food. Entertainment commences at the Dome with music, a 50/50 Drawing at the Village Stage, and a Tattoo Contest (back at the Dome), all between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The final day’s events on Saturday begin with two Poker Runs on the road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Registration from 9 a.m. to noon in the Williams Room, Balloon Slingshot Finals from 9 a.m. to noon on the Ski Slope, Vendors in the Village Area from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., the Golf Hole-in-One Finals at the Driving Range from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and Biker Games at the Rimfire parking lot from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Closing Ceremonies start at the Dome and go from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and, lastly, Entertainment at the Dome and the 50/50 Drawing at the Village Stage go from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
