Wild Rumpus LIVE @ Sweet Shoppe, Feb 9

If you haven’t heard of The Wild Rumpus, let us introduce you to a group that will make you want to shake yer’ rumpus at the Sweet Shoppe in downtown Lewisburg, on Saturday, February 9th. They refer to themselves as an Appalachian Stompgrass band, a phrase Allan Sizemore coined a few years ago. Bandmembers are Andrew Adkins: the mando and vox, Allan Sizemore: the guitjo, harmonica, guitar, and vox, and Clint Lewis: the doghouse bass.

They sound like the Hackensaw Boys, Old Crow Medicine Show, Townes Van Zandt, Doc Watson, and Muddy Waters. They travel often around the country and to off shore venues. You may find them performing at Carnegie Hall’s Ivy Terrace summer concert series some time this year.

Take the mountains, all the influences, whether they be bluegrass, blues, punk, folk or old country and roll them together and you get Appalachian Stompgrass, a breed of music that isn’t hung up on a certain label, but one that is forging it’s own brand. Appalachian Stompgrass? Yes. – The Wild Rumpus

How long have you been together?
The band originally began in late 2006

How did you come up with the name, Wild Rumpus?
It’s from the Maurice Sendak book “Where The Wild Things Are” we think it fits quite nicely.

What are your outside influences?
Many. Everything. Townes Van Zandt to the Black Keys.

Do you have a favorite place you perform/have performed?
We love NYC, The Rodeo Bar there is awesome. We love playing festivals, Merlefest was a huge highlight, thousands of people and this year we are on one of the main stages, so there’ll be a lot of people for that we hope.

What’s your most memorable show?
Wow, well, there have been some crazy shows over the years, Rivermen in Fayetteville is always a great time, there were 1500 people at our last show at the Rodeo. Lots of great shows.

The Wild Rumpus is an amazing trio. Catch them if you can. They killed it for this New Years Eve show. – Adam Robinson,

What’s new for Wild Rumpus?
We have a new album coming out this Spring ‘13, called: Shake Yer Rumpus. Merlefest, Bristol Rhythm and Roots, shows lined up all over the country and maybe even overseas, we’re working on that right now. We have some shows right here in Lewisburg coming up, Feb. 9 at the Sweet Shoppe, so everyone come on out.

Just want to say you guys are fantastic!! Listened to your CD on the way to work and can’t be in a bad mood now! – Vivian Kay Mosley, via Facebook.
