A Mountain Favorite: Foxfire Grille by Gillian McGinn

High atop Snowshoe Mountain, located near the main entrance, is Foxfire Grille. This eatery is privately owned and has been a staple at Snowshoe for 12 years. Patrons return year after year to enjoy traditional favorites and try new dishes. One unspoken rule stands at the Foxfire, and it’s to leave room for dessert, especially one in particular. This dessert treat makes the eatery distinctly unique to the resort and beyond: the tabletop s’mores. Yes, it’s true. You and your family/friends can leisurely toast marshmallows over a flame right at your table.

This is my favorite place to eat at Snowshoe. The menu variety is fantastic, the service is great, it’s kid-friendly, and the quality is always there. – Peter D. Arbovale, WV.

The tabletop s’mores are not the only unique feature to Foxfire. Well known to the eatery are BBQ ribs that fall-off the bone and the incredibly tender pulled pork. These two dishes are specially served with one of 5 novel sauces that are legendary to the Foxfire and known as the 5 “Round the South Sauces”: Lexington, Bucket Hill, Memphis, Lone Star, and East Carolina. No matter which sauce you choose, you’re sure to be delighted.

While the Foxfire maintains its traditional dishes, new menu items are added seasonally, such as the Porcini Mushroom Ravioli. This meal is served with a soy ginger buerre blanc and the suggested wine is the house Pinot Grigio. Another new item this season is the Cornmeal Dusted Catfish Sandwich.

Kathy Carpenter, co-owner of the Foxfire, has a favorite meal, which is the Shrimp & Cheddar Grits and Andouille Sausage. Kathy believes this dish compliments well with the house Shiraz.

Great selection of on-tap beer, a nice view of the Appalachian mountains at Snowshoe and the location is perfect within the resort. Try the BBQ pulled pork sandwich. The pork is very juicy and flavored well. Can’t wait to go back! – Karen D., VA.

During your next trip to the mountain, check out Foxfire Grille and tell them LBSPY sent you. We think this eatery will be your newest favorite spot to refuel after a long day in the snow.
